U13-U18 Assessments

Soccer in PEI, is a 3-tier division system. It is often used to classify teams based on their skill levels and competitive performance.

How tryouts and assessments work?

  1. Premier Tryouts
  • All players who would like to tryout for the premier team will attend these tryouts. These tryouts do require to pre-register for to be able to provide high quality assessments on all the players. Typically there are 3 tryouts, at times with greater numbers or a equally skilled group, there can be a 4th or 5th invite only tryout.
  1. First Division Tryout/Assessment
  • U13: All players that would like to tryout for first division will attend these tryouts. Typically there are 3 tryouts, at times with greater numbers or a equally skilled group, there can be a 4th invite only tryout.
  • U15/U18: All players that did not make the premier team will attend these assessments. U15/U18 does not have a second division league. All players will attend the assessment, be assessed and placed on a team. This is to ensure that all our first division teams are equal skilled.
  1. Second Division Assessments (U13)
  • All players that did not make the premier and first division team will attend these assessments. All players will attend the assessment, be assessed and placed on a team. This is to ensure that all our second division teams are equal skilled.

Here’s an overview of how these levels are typically structured:

1. Premier Division (Highest Skill Level)

  • U13-U18
  • Skill Level: This is the top tier, featuring the most skilled and experienced players. Teams in this division play at an elite level, with advanced techniques, tactical understanding, and physical fitness.

  • Competition: Premier division teams often participate in high-level competitions, facing tough opponents from other regions or leagues.

  • Development: Many players in this division aim for professional or semi-professional opportunities. Training and commitment are intensive to maintain high performance.

2. First Division (Intermediate Skill Level)

  • U13-U18
  • Skill Level: This is the middle tier, consisting of teams that display solid skills and understanding of the game but may not yet meet the premier division standards.

  • Competition: Teams in the first division compete at a competitive level but may face less intense pressure compared to the premier division.

  • Development: It serves as a pathway for players and teams aspiring to reach the premier division, focusing on refining skills and gaining experience.

3. Second Division (Entry/Developmental Level)

  • U13 ONLY
  • Skill Level: This is the lowest tier, primarily for beginner or less experienced players who are building foundational skills.

  • Competition: The second division is often less competitive, focusing more on participation, learning, and enjoyment of the game.

  • Development: It emphasizes skill development, teamwork, and understanding the basics of soccer, serving as a starting point for players to move up the tiers.

This tiered structure is beneficial because it ensures balanced competition, helps teams compete against similarly skilled opponents, and creates opportunities for growth at every level.
