OSCAR WAUGH LEADERSHIP AWARD

This award is presented to a soccer player who displays the qualities of a true leader.  A true leader is not the loudest player on the team, nor is it the player who scores the most goals.  A true leader has many qualities that are seen on and off the field.  For Instance…

A true leader is:

a player who is disciplined, someone who is consistently working hard every time he or she steps on the field whether it is a practice or a game.

  • Someone who has the natural ability to motivate teammates to do their very best even when times are tough
  • Someone who is unselfish by creating the best opportunity for teammates
  • Someone who has positive communication on and off the field
  • Someone who celebrates teammates' successes
  • Someone who has respect, and demands others to have respect for each other

Oscar Waugh was all of these qualities wrapped up into one amazing athlete.

The Donnie Taweel Memorial Bursary

RC United Soccer Club is proud to introduce The Donnie Taweel Memorial Bursary, created in honour of the late Donnie Taweel, who passed away in 2022. Donnie served as Vice President of our club for well over a decade—closer to fifteen years—and remained a dedicated volunteer, mentor, and builder long after stepping back from his formal role. His commitment to our players, our programs, and especially our clubhouse left a lasting mark on our community.

The Donnie Taweel Memorial Bursary is awarded to a local youth soccer player who has shown strong commitment to the RC United soccer club through volunteer contributions. Donnie Taweel was a devoted member of the Eliot River Ramblers Soccer Club community and dedicated countless hours, both as a coach and a long-time member of the club executive. Throughout the years, he was involved in many aspects of the club, but he always played a key role in the upkeep and maintenance of the clubhouse and fields and always strived to have the facilities in pristine condition for the club’s teams. This bursary honours his legacy by supporting a student who will work with the club during the summer months, and is intended to recognize and encourage the same spirit that defined Donnie’s contributions to the club. This bursary has been made possible through generous support from Donnie’s former employer, Fundy Engineering, and through generous donations from the members of the Construction Association of PEI.

Nominees must:

  • Be a RC United player.
  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to volunteerism within the club (e.g., helping with younger teams, assisting at events, supporting field or clubhouse tasks, or contributing to community initiatives).
  • Show leadership, reliability, and a positive attitude.
  • Represent the spirit of teamwork, service, and community that Donnie championed.
